What this means for your garden.
The southern coastal band around Corpus Christi and Laredo is Region IV in this guide. Several cool-season planting dates run into November and December.
For cabbage, the regional reference is October 1, with October 20 listed separately as the last optimum date. A later calendar does not make new transplants immune to heat or wet soil. Check moisture before watering, especially while roots are becoming established.

If you want a quick harvest from a small space, compare this longer commitment with leaf lettuce or radishes before saving your plan.
- Give the plant a good first week.
Use the spacing on the variety label rather than packing small transplants tightly together. Their eventual heads need substantially more room than the plants do at purchase.
